Months ago, I said I would make a quilt for Mr G and found some fantastic material to use. He had a vague design in mind, and eventually settled on one from Material Obsession, with some modifications. Each block is a modified log cabin, so I need to fussy cut the center squares. And can I just say, fussy cutting is a complete and utter pain in the butt! It has taken me ages, and I still haven't finished......and I still have to cut all the other pieces yet. Blah!
In other news, I have finally finished the fairytale quilt I was making for a 4yo birthday. Turned out very nicely, I think.
I especially like the back - I started off with the panel, which I was going to cut to use for the squares on the front, but realised there were no seam allowances, so I ended up using the panel on the back. I hope the recipient likes it.
So because I'm sick to death of fussy cutting, I'm planning another project. Funnily enough, I was looking at a whirly gig pattern in a book borrowed from the library, when what did I see on Theresa's blog??? I also want to make a log cabin quilt, so I think I'll use these blues for that one, and use purples or black/white for the whirly gigs. Also like the look of a pinwheel quilt, like the one on Old Red Barn so that will be a good use of my scraps. I've been cutting them into 4.5" squares and knew they would come in handy some day.
And finally, I've been a bit naughty about increasing my stash, and have bought quite a bit from Fabric Shack and Pink Chalk lately. I do find it ridiculous (and a bit sad) that I can buy these Prints Charming cheaper from the US than I can from here.
Gosh that's so pretty!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful!
ReplyDelete...and to think, I was feeling proud of myself for helping Sapphire dye her blown-out eggs!
I love your fairytale quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm also toying with a pinwheel quilt but think I'll just absorb it all for later....still a bit busy with the bigger cartwheel! Wish I'd been sewing on the weekend...lucky thing!
And slow old me is still sewing the brown and green quilt that I started in january!!! se my blog for the reasons why.
